Homemade chips are not only tastier than store-bought – they’re also a fun and personal touch to your wine night. With just a few ingredients and the right seasoning, you can create something both crispy and elegant. Here’s the recipe, the wine pairings, and the ideas that will make your next wine evening extra special.

Recipe: Classic Homemade Chips

You’ll need

  • 4 large potatoes (preferably firm variety)

  • Neutral oil (like canola or sunflower)

  • Sea salt

  • Optional seasonings: rosemary, truffle oil, chili, or smoked paprika

How to do it

  1. Slice the potatoes thinly using a mandoline or cheese slicer.

  2. Soak the slices in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.

  3. Dry thoroughly with a kitchen towel.

  4. Fry in oil (about 160°C / 320°F) in batches until golden and crispy.

  5. Drain on paper towels, salt immediately, and season to taste.

Wine that Elevates the Chips

Champagne
The high acidity and bubbles cut through the fat – a luxurious classic.

Sauvignon Blanc
Fresh and herbal – perfect with rosemary or sea salt chips.

Pinot Noir (chilled)
For red wine lovers – especially good with truffle or smoked paprika chips.

Tip

Serve the chips in small bowls with different flavors and label them. Turn it into a tasting game – pair each with a different wine and let guests vote for the winning combo.
